MoBluz Band at Woody's in Bitely
Posted:Thursday June 26th 2008

Inspirations:

The walk through this life from child to adult is enough to inspire anyone to write the blues. Those with truely caring and sensitive hearts just bring them to life to share with others walking the same road.

Have you been jilted, abandoned, neglected, hurt, left with no warning and no good bye, lost a friend, seen a friend crash on the shores of drugs and depression, lost all you had or felt you could never love again?

The songs MoBluz plays are for you.

It's life that inspires the music MoBluz Band plays. Hard times in their lives means more blues for you.

Like any other band, the MoBluz Band started out as an idea. With years of experience playing solo and in other bands doing cover tunes, Dennis Hoffman reached the point where he wanted to do the music he enjoyed - Blues and R & B. Cover tunes in the genre were plentiful and popular but his own music had been developing over the years. Getting your heart into and loving what you do means putting yourself into it. His next step was to bring those originals to the public.
Between bands and solo gigs the dream had begun percolating. Dennis was talking with a friend one day. That friend said, "I hear yo' writin' music now. What kinda stuff are yo' writin'?

Dennis answered, "Blues man. I had a lot of different influences in my music, but blues is what I'm writin'".

His friend quipped, " Tha's jus' what we need, mo' blues!

The phrase struck a chord in Dennis. He grinned and told his friend, " Thanks, man! You just named the band."

From idea to name to reality takes time and commitment. "MoBluz" started as a solo with Dennis on vocals and guitar. The drummer, Ed Fish, joined him.

Recently Shark White, a guitarist who had worked in another band with Dennis, reunited with them. The sparks flew between their guitars.

Shark brought in Rob vonBassman, an amazing bass player, who had more original tunes to add to the group.

While the MoBluz Band does cover classic blues, R & B, classic rock, and country, the blues and rythym and blues tunes by Dennis and Rod provide a relevant and vivid base for the band to stretch from.

Their work ranges from soft and haunting to flat out, butt swingin' dance music. From standing by the one you love to being left lonely, the lyrics speak to almost anyone and have a way of reaching out that makes you want to hear them again.

As a dream becoming reality the MoBluz Band is constantly evolving. They are flexing their musical talent and shaking down into a solid unit. Four men, each an individual, strive to meld their talents to bring out the best in each of them and in each tune they play.

They aren't just another band going to work for the evening. They enjoy the challange of reaching for the right mix, balance and blend to make each song stand out and each player shine at what they do. The audience benefits from their "glad to be here and glad you're here" 'tude. You don't just listen to MoBluz, you feel what the music expresses and it speaks to you.

Dennis, Ed, Clark and Rob have that elusive quality that so many bands try for but never quite get - unity. When they play they are melding, blending, joining; But each of them is still freely expressing themselves musically.

Come on out and join them for a night that isn't just the "same old songs". If you don't find yourself tapping your toes or swingin your body in time to the music at least once during the night, I'll call the medics for you myself! - D.S. Weiler
